Amber Barson is a South African rider now based in London, England. She runs Refined Horsemanship UK with her other half (Darren Greally), is a freelance instructor and rider, and competes in British Eventing.
Amber began her horse riding career at the tender age of 8, and like most girls was soon pony mad. She continued to have lessons for 4 years before being offered the chance to ride her first thoroughbred, Roland’s Heir (Roly), beginning a life-long love of the breed. After Roly, Amber was then asked to ride more, often difficult horses or ones with problems. During this time she was trained by Sharon Orpen and Belinda Haytread, while being an active member of the Hout Bay Pony Club and competing on a regular basis.
She moved to the UK soon after finishing high school to pursue her career as an event rider. She was lucky to find work with event rider Georgie Spence before moving to London to work as an Instructor at London’s famous Hyde Park Stables. While working there she began to study for her AI.
She has now started the study of Natural Horsemanship, something that comes very easily for her as she has taken the time to build a good relationship with the horses, creating training programs and goals to suit each horse individually.
Amber is currently looking for rides for the 2017 season. Feel free to send her an email to find out more about ownership or being part of a syndicate. Thanks for visiting!
